Set Up Swedish E-Prescriptions

Clinics in Sweden can write e-prescriptions in Provet and send them to the Swedish eHealth Agency. Before your clinic can use e-prescriptions, Provet must activate the feature. Then you set up the e-prescription settings for your clinic location and the user details for each veterinarian.

If your clinic uses VETiSearch, see VETiSearch – E-Prescription Installation and Activation instead.

Activate Swedish E-Prescriptions

To activate Swedish e-prescriptions, your clinic must first register as a legal business in Sweden. To do this, fill in a form:

  1. Get the form from your implementation specialist. If your clinic is not in an implementation project, contact Provet's support team.

  2. The veterinarian or owner who is responsible for e-prescriptions at the clinic fills in the form.

  3. Send the completed form to your implementation specialist or to support@provet.info. In the same message, ask Provet to activate Swedish e-prescriptions.

Set Up E-Prescription Settings for a Clinic Location

The e-prescription settings are in Settings > Clinic location > Swedish E-prescription. The settings apply to one clinic location. After you change a setting, select Save.

Turn On Swedish E-Prescriptions

  • E-prescription enabled: Select this check box to turn on e-prescriptions for the clinic location.

  • Workflow type: Select Simplified or Standard. For the differences, see Choose an E-Prescription Workflow Type.

  • Show 'Add order': Select this check box to show Add order in the e-prescription. Users can then send the medicine to a specific pharmacy or, where possible, to the client's home address.

  • Require client data before writing E-prescriptions: Select this check box if users must fill in the client details before they create an e-prescription.

  • Allow creating E-prescriptions as counter sales without consultation: Select this check box to let users create e-prescriptions from the client page and the patient page. Provet charges the fees as a counter sale.

Set Up E-Prescription Fees

  • Fee type: Select how your clinic charges the fee for an e-prescription. With From pharmacy, the pharmacy sets the fee. This requires an agreement with the pharmacy. With From billing service, your clinic uses Provet's billing service for e-prescriptions outside a consultation. Your clinic can also charge the fee outside Provet.

  • Default fee incl. Sales Tax or Default fee excl. Sales Tax: Enter the fee amount. The field depends on Fee type. With From billing service, Provet also calculates Total fee excl. Sales Tax.

  • Default items for countersale: Select the items that Provet adds to the counter sale for each e-prescription. This applies to e-prescriptions outside a consultation.

  • Default items for consultation: Select the items that Provet adds to the consultation invoice for each e-prescription. This applies to e-prescriptions in a consultation.

  • Max amount of default items for consultation: Enter the highest number of default items that Provet adds to one consultation.

Clinics usually use default items to charge a prescription fee.

Send an SMS to the Client When an E-Prescription Is Ready

  • Send a notification SMS to the client when the E-prescription is approved: Select this check box to send a text message to the client. Provet sends the message when the Swedish eHealth Agency accepts the e-prescription.

  • Text for the SMS notification: Enter the text of the message. To use one of your clinic's templates, select Text templates.

Choose an E-Prescription Workflow Type

The workflow type controls how users add medicines and supplies to an e-prescription. We recommend the simplified workflow.

  • Simplified: Users search for medicines and supplies directly in the e-prescription. The added medicines and supplies show at the bottom. Users can save and send the e-prescription in one step. Users can also see dosage information from FASS and use the clinic's text templates.

  • Standard: Users first choose to add a medicine or a supply. Medicines and supplies have separate searches. To add more medicines or supplies, users select the plus button at the bottom. The e-prescription is saved as a draft before users can send it.

Set Up Users Who Send E-Prescriptions

Each veterinarian who sends e-prescriptions needs these user details. A user with administrator rights adds the details.

  • Prescriber ID: Enter the veterinarian's prescriber code, which is registered with the Swedish eHealth Agency. Without a prescriber code, the veterinarian cannot send e-prescriptions.

  • ID number: Enter the veterinarian's Swedish personal identity number.

  • The user's role must be veterinarian. Only users with the veterinarian role can create e-prescriptions.

To send an e-prescription, each veterinarian also needs BankID or Freja eID+.

For more information about user details, see Create and Manage User Accounts.
