Block Time in the Appointment Calendar

You can block time in the appointment calendar for various reasons, such as short-notice closures or planned absences. There are two primary methods for blocking time:

  • Using the ‘Other’ appointment type for quick, short-notice blocking in calendar.

  • Scheduling non-bookable shifts for planned, regularly occurring shifts that should be blocked from appointments.

This article focuses on using the ‘Other’ appointment type. For information on scheduling non-bookable shifts, see Manage shifts.

Block Time Using the Other Appointment Type

  1. Click on the time slot in the appointment calendar to create a new appointment.

  2. Select Other as the appointment type.

  3. Add a Reason type and a Preliminary note. You do not need to add a client or patient.

  4. Adjust the time and duration and Save.

You can edit the appointment just like regular appointments, for example, adjust the duration, drag and drop the appointment, or add additional users or resources to block the same time for multiple users. Because this appointment type is distinct from standard consultations, you can easily exclude it from visit statistics.
