Checking a patient in is an optional step. It is typically used when a receptionist handles admissions before the veterinarian begins the consultation. When a veterinarian handles the admission process and begins the consultation directly, the check-in step can be skipped.

This article provides instructions for admitting a patient in for a consultation visit.

When a client and patient arrive at the clinic, you can check the patient in:

  1. In the Appointments calendar, right-click on the appointment and select Check in patient from the pop-up menu. You can also view and open appointments from the Dashboard.

  2. On the Consultation details page, select the Check in patient button.

To admit a patient that does not have a booked appointment or to skip the check-in step and start the consultation directly, see Start a Consultation.

If a client does not arrive to a booked appointment, you can mark the appointment as no-show.
