This article explains how to identify a user as a locum and assign them access to one or more clinic locations for a specific, time-bound period. This feature streamlines the management of locums and maintains secure access control.
Permissions required
As a user with permission to manage locums and assignments, you can assign a locum to your clinic(s) for specific dates. You can manage these assignments but cannot create, edit, or archive users.
To manage locum assignments, the following user permission needs to be enabled:
Manage locums & assignments

In the Edit user pop-up window, scroll to Locum and check the Mark user as locum resource checkbox.
Click Save to confirm the changes.
2. Create a Time-Bound Locum Assignment
To create a time-bound locum assignment:
Go to Calendar > Staff and select the Locums tab.
Select + Assign locum.
Use the Search bar and filters to quickly find the locum you wish to assign. Users who are marked as locum are displayed on screen.
Select the locum user you wish to assign and click Continue.
Define the Start date and End date for the assignment period using the calendar.
If you need to assign more dates, click + Add another assignment.
Click Review details to confirm that the assignment details are correct.
After reviewing the assignment details, click Confirm & Assign.
Note
The locum's access to the clinic is automatically enabled and revoked according to the assignment period. Locums can log in only to the assigned clinic location and only during the timeframes they are assigned.
Assignment Example
If Dr. Smith works as a locum vet at Clinic A every Monday and Clinic B every Tuesday, the manager at Clinic A assigns Dr. Smith for every Monday, and the manager at Clinic B assigns Dr. Smith for every Tuesday. Provet automatically enforces that Dr. Smith can log into Clinic A only on Mondays and Clinic B only on Tuesdays.
