This article explains how to assign or change Supervising Veterinarians, nurses, and other support staff to consultations in Provet. In Provet, the terms Supervising Veterinarian and Responsible Persons refer to key roles in managing patient care during a consultation.

If the 'Allow Support Staff as Supervising Users' setting in Clinic Location is activated, all support staff can be made available for scheduling shifts, appointments, and can be assigned as the supervising user on consultations. This allows a clinic to schedule staff for appointments such as nail clippings, pet passports, and other tasks that do not require a supervising veterinarian.

Changing the Supervising Veterinarian on Consultations

To change the supervising veterinarian or clinician for a consultation:

  1. Go to the consultation page.

  2. Navigate to Consultation Details.

  3. Next to the Veterinarian field, select the pen button to edit the veterinarian.

If items have already been added to the consultation, you may also need to change the responsible veterinarian for each item.

To change the responsible veterinarian on an item:

  1. On the consultation page, open the item dialogue by selecting the pen button next to the item.

  2. In the top-right corner, select the 'X' next to the veterinarian's name and then add the veterinarian's name you want to assign.

  3. Select Save in the item dialogue.

Depending on your clinic settings, you can link additional personnel, such as a Responsible Nurse, Responsible Surgeon, or Student, to a consultation to track their involvement once a patient is checked in. The Supervising Veterinarian or staff remains the main person for the consultation, but notes and items can be assigned to additional responsible persons. The main veterinarian for a consultation is automatically added to a diagnosis, but you can change it if needed.

Customising the Veterinarian Field Term

You can customise the name of the Veterinarian field in Provet to align with your clinic's preferred terminology.

To customise the term:

  1. Go to Settings > General > Print Settings.

  2. Select Veterinarian field.

  3. Insert desired term. Save.

The updated term will be visible in various views, including the consultation view. This custom term will also be shown in most customer-facing documents.

You can configure your Provet settings to align with your clinic's workflow regarding supervising veterinarians and responsible staff:

  • Settings > General > Clinic Location > Allow Support Staff as Supervising Users: Enables non-veterinary staff to be assigned as supervising users and be assigned shifts/appointments.

  • Settings > General > Clinic Location > Enable Responsible Nurses on Consultation: Allows the assignment of responsible nurses to consultations.

  • Settings > General > Clinic Location > Enable Responsible Surgeons on Consultation: Allows the assignment of responsible surgeons to consultations.

  • Settings > General > Clinic Location > Enable Mandatory Responsible Person for Consultation Items: Requires a responsible person to be assigned to consultation items.

  • Settings > General > Clinic Location > Default Responsible Person for Consultation Items: Sets a default responsible person for consultation items.

  • Settings > General > Print Settings: Veterinarian. Customises the displayed term for 'Veterinarian'.
